January Session (3 Weeks) at The Blank Park Zoo:

These sign language classes are for hearing infants and toddlers who love to go to the Zoo, but don't know how to communicate with others about their experiences.  The class includes three parent/child play classes.  Each class will last 50 minutes and will include fun, interactive activities and Signing Smart strategies, as well as an animal visitor to the classroom. 

Weekly themes are: Fur and Feathers; Amphibians and Reptiles; and Bugs and Insects. Well-suited to those who may have no experience with sign language as well as families who are familiar with Signing Smart classes or materials.  

As Blank Park Zoo will be observing winter hours during the time of class, participants will be given Zoo passes to enjoy the Zoo on a day of their choosing. All classes will be held in the Discovery Center rooms at the Zoo.

Cost includes 3 classes for 1 child and up to 2 adults. 

Zoo Members:  $50.00    Non-Zoo Members:  $60.00

Wednesdays, January 14, 21, 28 at 6:00 PM.

Thursdays, January 15, 22, 29 at 9:30 AM

February Session (5 Weeks) at the Science Center of Iowa

Science and Signs!

This NEW sign language class is perfect for hearing infants just awakening to the world around them and toddlers who love hands-on adventures at the SCI.  Led by a teacher from Songs and Signs, LLC, parents will learn an array of ASL signs and strategies that can help lessen frustration and lead to a new world of early communication with their child.  Children will be engaged with toys and props that relate to the signs shared in class.  Weekly themes allow families to practice new signs while exploring the SCI or enjoying an interactive activity presented by a SCI staff member. 

Themes include: basic starter signs; food and playtime signs; body and senses signs;  nature signs;  animal and insect signs;  bed/bath time signs and signs about things we see in the sky. 

Cost includes 5 classes for 1 child and up to 2 adults. 

SCI Members:  $100.00    Non-SCI Members:  $120.00

Optional Materials:  $20.00 for the award-winning book, “Signing Smart with Babies and Toddlers: A Parent's Strategy and Activity Guide”
